What Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a simple process, as long as it’s performed by a licensed and certified laser technician.
Here’s how it works:
A certified technician applies a laser light to the area of unwanted hair. The pulses of light emitted by the laser attack the hair and the follicle, destroying the hair at the root and preventing it from growing back.
Hair grows in three different phases, and for the laser to effectively destroy the root, the hair needs to be in the growth phase.
It is for this reason that multiple treatments are required. In order to capture each hair in that growth phase, you will need to have several sessions spaced out roughly four weeks apart.

FAQs
Laser hair removal is more than just ”zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform and carries potential risks. Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the doctor or technician performing the procedure.
If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.
You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.
Just before the procedure, your hair that will be undergoing treatment will be trimmed to a few millimeters above the skin surface. Usually topical numbing medicine is applied 20- 30 minutes before the laser procedure, to help with the sting of the laser pulses. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color.
Depending on the laser or light source used, you and the technician will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel or special cooling device. This will help the laser light penetrate the skin.
Next, the technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions.
When the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, or cold water to ease any discomfort. You may schedule your next treatment four to six weeks later. You’ll get treatments until hair stops growing.
For a day or two afterward, the treated area of your skin will look and feel like it’s sunburned. Cool compresses and moisturizers may help. If your face was treated, you can wear makeup the next day unless your skin is blistering.
Over the next month, your treated hair will fall out. Wear sunscreen for the following month to help prevent temporary changes in the color of the treated skin.
Blisters are rare but are more likely in people with darker complexions. Other potential side effects are swelling, redness, and scarring. Permanent scarring or changes in skin color are rare.
Why Laser Hair Removal Is the Best Method?
- It’s Quick
If it’s a quick solution you’re searching for, laser hair removal is the fastest way to get rid of unwanted hair.
You will have to have multiple treatment sessions, but most sessions only take a few minutes. The smaller the treatment area, the less time you’ll spend under the laser.
- It’s Less Painful Than Other Hair Removal Methods
Laser hair removal is a lot less painful than most people think. Many people equate it to the feeling of snapping a rubber band against the skin.
Depending on your threshold for pain, you may find it slightly uncomfortable, but the sessions are so fast that most people find it easy to endure. - It’s Precise
Laser technology is incredibly precise, making laser hair removal ideal for people looking to target and remove a few specific hairs.
This makes it a great option, even if you’re looking to remove small areas of hair. - It Can Remove Hair From Any Part of the Body
With the exception of eyelashes, laser hair removal can be performed on any part of the body.
It’s especially ideal for the back and bikini area, which can be hard to reach with razors and extremely painful to wax. - It Prevents Ingrown Hairs
Shaving, waxing, and other methods of hair removal can cause ingrown hairs. If you’re prone to ingrown hairs, laser hair removal is an excellent option.
By destroying the hair at the root, you’ll never have to worry about those pesky hairs growing back in or curling back into the body and becoming ingrown. - It Saves You From Having to Endure Regrowth Some methods, such as waxing and plucking, require that you endure a bit of regrowth in between sessions. With laser hair removal, you can enjoy smooth, hair-free skin at all times.
- It’s a Long-Term Solution Most people see permanent, lasting results with laser hair removal. In some cases, you may need a touch-up a few months or years down the line, but it remains one of the best long-term solutions available.
At minimum, you will see a permanent reduction in hair growth that becomes easier to maintain over time.
Because it’s a long-term solution, it’s also cost effective. Over the course of your lifetime, you can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars, as there won’t be a need for monthly waxes or razor blade refills.
Keep in mind that while laser hair removal works on all different skin tones, it is most effective on people with light skin and dark hair. People with darker skin tones may experience temporary hyperpigmentation of the skin in the treated area.

Derma Fillers
Dermal fillers refer to a variety of different products that can be used to fill in deep lines in the skin and add fullness back to the face.
Dermal fillers are also used to add fullness and definition to the lips and cheeks. For clients in MedSmart seeking facial aesthetic treatments, dermal fillers offer a non-invasive and highly effective solution to giving the face a more youthful glow.
As you age, the skin on your face can sag and the fatty tissue beneath your skin can break down, leaving you with more wrinkles and creases than you’re used to seeing. Dermal fillers can help you restore your youthful appearance and:*
- Soften facial wrinkles
- Plump thin or uneven lips
- Recontour surfaces of the face
- Decrease shadowing on lower eyelids
- Restore shallow contours of the cheeks
There are several types of dermal fillers trusted by doctors. Each type of filler offers different overall benefits and lasts for varying amounts of time. Read on to learn more about your options for addressing your areas of concern.
Microneedling
What is RF Microneedling?
Radiofrequency microneedling (RF microneedling) is an exceptional alternative to more expensive facial procedures. It’s an upgraded version of one of the most common non-invasive treatments in MedSmart for minor to significant skin complaints. MedSamrt aesthetic specialists have an in-depth understanding of this new technique which offers patients a uniquely effective solution to nearly all aesthetic challenges.*
Typical microneedling uses a pen-like device with dozens of tiny needles on the tip. This device is moved across the skin as the microneedles quickly penetrate the skin at a shallow depth. As the needles work their way across your skin, they send injury signals to your body without ever actually causing damage. During this treatment, your skin is prompted to produce collagen and elastin which work together to boost the youthful appearance of your skin while combating minor to moderate skin conditions.
- Fine lines or wrinkles
- Scarring
- Acne scars
- Uneven skin texture or abnormalities
- Sagging skin
- Melasma and hyperpigmentation
- Rosacea
- Enlarged pores
Patients typically require repeat procedures to experience the full results that RF microneedling can offer, but with minimal to zero downtime needed the treatment can fit easily into your life. Better yet, the results are worth it.
Facial
Facials have been found to help relieve skin issues caused by regular aging. The growth factors in are essentially naturally occurring elements that send a signal to your skin to produce collagen, generate new capillaries, and generally initiate a healing reaction.
The gives your skin a chance to ramp up the healing process, rejuvenating old, damaged skin.
Some of the most common skin complaints that may be able to help solve include:
- Acne scars and dark spots
- Fine lines around the eyes
- Loose skin on the neck
- Dark circles and puffiness around the eyes
Facial Treatment Results
Most patients reported experiencing signs of glowing skin within the first 3 weeks following afacial. The fullest results, however, can be seen around the 3-6 months range as new collagen is deposited in the skin, reducing wrinkles over time.*
For best restorative results of a facial we recommend 2 sessions at 6 weeks apart, but patients who have more problem areas can require 3 or 4 treatments with a standard 6 week recovery time between each.*
Body Contouring
What Is Body Contouring?
Body contouring, also known as body sculpting, is a cutting-edge, non-invasive, and non-surgical treatment to remove fat and reshape your body to improve its aesthetic.
At MedSamrt Wellness Center, we focus on non-surgical and non-invasive aesthetic treatment methods because of their minimized risks and quick recovery time. During our non-surgical body contouring treatment, we heat the fat and eliminate it using a source of energy like electromagnetic waves, lasers, or radiofrequency – no incision required.*
Skin Tightening
Skin Tightening of the face and neck can deliver amazing results without the requirement of surgery or other invasive procedures. Skin tightening treatment can significantly reduce loose, sagging skin on the face and neck through the use of lasers and radiofrequency. Skin tightening treatments can take years off the appearance of your face and neck, boosting your confidence in the process.
Over the years, your skin loses collagen and elasticity which can lead to sagging skin that makes you look and feel older. If you’re not quite ready to turn to painful surgeries for results, laser and radiofrequency (RF) treatments could be the answer to changing the way you feel about your skin.
Non-surgical neck and facelifts have provided amazing results for thousands of patients. Laser and RF treatments on the face and neck can tighten skin and even reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. No matter which option you choose, you’ll know you’re in the hands of professionals at MedSmart.*
Skin Resurfacing Genesis
Skin Resurfacing provides an effective, long-lasting way to remove a variety of scars for those who have moderate to severe facial scarring.
Skin Resurfacing provides those affected by facial acne scars with a variety of methods and treatment options. The benefits of Skin Resurfacing at MedSmart can help you reclaim your skin and improve your self-esteem. You’ll know people are seeing you and not your scars.*
Whether you’re suffering from acne scars or the visible scars of an old injury, skin resurfacing can help rejuvenate your skin by vaporizing scar tissue and encouraging healthy skin cells to produce the collagen and elastin needed for a healthy, even skin tone.
Spider Veins
Spider Veins Removal with the use of lasers can remove or drastically reduce the appearance of spider veins on your face and body. Unlike surgery, spider veins removal is an outpatient procedure that doesn’t require excessive downtime.
Spider veins removal treatment is performed at our MedSamrt Wellness Center FL. This aesthetic procedure can help you regain your confidence by shedding the need to hide your skin from the world.
Whether you have a tiny spider vein or a large cluster somewhere, chances are you’ve thought at some point about getting them removed. Unfortunately, spider veins won’t go away on their own. Creams or scrubs that claim to diminish the appearance of spider veins simply aren’t effective. Let the experts at our offices help you overcome your spider veins and reclaim a love for your skin.*
Sunspots
Sun Spots Removal with IPL Laser provides skin discoloration improvements for someone with sun spots. It is a great treatment option as it encourages cell turnover without invasive treatments. Sun Spots Removal with IPL Laser is administered by our laser specialist at MedSmart Wellness Center. The procedure can completely change your skin’s appearance and help you achieve a more youthful, even complexion.
Whether you’re an avid lover of the outdoors or just a casual fan, you might have developed sun spots. Sun spots are small brown or red marks on the face, neck, arms, and hands that discolor the skin. You might be left with an uneven skin tone. If makeup and creams aren’t doing the trick, consider the restorative abilities of IPL laser treatments.*
